Minerva S. Gómez, J.D., M.A.

Mom & Compliance Director

My Family

Hi! Thank you for taking a moment of your time to get to know a little more about me. My name is Minerva S. Gomez. I am married, and have a beautiful, kind, and loving eight-year-old daughter, that is a third-grader in the district.

Getting Involved in La Habra Community

La Habra has been our home for almost a decade. Throughout the years, we have tried our best to support local community efforts. In this work, I was elected as one of the school site council members and most recently, the La Habra City Council unanimously voted to appoint me as one of the La Habra Planning Commission members.

Why I am Running for School Board

Personally

  • I understand first-hand the intersectionalities of many of our school children in the district, therefore, I want to be able to contribute to meaningful decision making that is holistic, informed, open/ honest, inclusive, equitable, and engaged for our next generation of leaders

  • I have deep roots in community building and organizing, I bring a unique lens on how to bring diverse communities together, bridge relationships, and utilize my resources to support our school board in the work they are currently leading and

  • As a mother of a child that is currently in the La Habra School District, I want to continue to be an engaged parent for her, the children, the schools, and in our city.

For The Schools

  • Ensuring that the districts policies and procedures hold true to DEIAB values

  • That budget spending meets the needs of the schools, the teachers, the staff, and most importantly the students

  • That our teachers and staff get the proper support they need to effectively continue their educational duties in our children’s education

  • That the district stays up to date with innovation, technologies, and new methodologies to support the students, teachers, and staff and

  • That students, teachers, and staff are in a safe environment.

For Our Students & Families

  • To continue to offer in-language, timely, accessible, and clear communications

  • Ensuring that communities educational events are offered at various days and times during the week

  • Doing community outreach in the local neighborhoods and

  • Strengthening our partnerships with local community organizations and groups to support in bringing critical information to parents/ families.

Being a Part of Positive Changes in our Communities

For many years, I have been involved in community building, education, and outreach efforts throughout Orange County to support local, state, and national social justice initiatives. Through these actions I learned to take action with the people and for the people, to build long lasting communities, to get organized, to create positive change, to ensure that all our voices are heard and included, and to create impactful change.

Educational Background

In addition, to my community organizing involvement- I am a first-generation college graduate. I earned two Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology and Sociology, and a Masters Degree in Applied Social Research from the California State University Long Beach. Moreover, during those years I felt called to pursue a law degree because I continued to witness and experience the inequities that exist and I want to be a legal resource to our communities; therefore, in 2020 I started my law school journey at the Seattle University School of Law. I  earned my law degree in 2023 and during my law school experience I focused on exploring the intersectionalities of social justice, technology, and innovation.

Thank you, and I would be honored to earn your support and/ vote.
